What’s Happening in Class:
Mrs. Sharman
Resource LA-
Students will get their spelling list on Monday and we will have a test on Friday. We will learn about the author’s purpose for a story as well as why a setting influences a story. As a class we will read the story, "Mr. Putter and Tabby Write the Book." Students will access this story through using Schoology and will be required to reread it Tuesday night. Students will have nightly grammar homework as well as Lexia or Reading Plus work on their iPad.
Resource Writing-
We will continue with narrative writing. Students will be thinking of important places and moments in their lives and we will brainstorm a list to add to their writing notebook. We will also begin a short narrative writing.
Mrs. Brenner
Advanced Math-
This week in Advanced Math, we will continue to discuss unit rate and how to find the unit price of an item. We will continue to work on how to use rate table to identify the constant speed of an object using unit rate. We will have a quiz on lesson 6 and 7. Our next lessons will be discussing linked values in ratio tables; that means that as one item goes up the other also either goes up or down as indicated. We have been looking to find our real world applications, like being paid an hourly wage, miles per gallon, cost per ounce, etc. I encourage you to talk to your child about how you use unit rates in your daily life, for example comparing the cost of two different brands of milk at the grocery store, how do you know what is the better buy?
Co-taught Math-
UPDATE: Students are now required to do 60 minutes of Moby Math by Friday, NOT the 2 lesson requirement we had previously assigned. Please make sure your student understands this expectation! We will continue with unit 1 which focuses on fractions. Students will review and learn how to compare fractions with unlike denominators, add mixed numbers, convert improper fractions to mixed numbers and we will have a quiz to check-in on their learning early in the week.

Science-
In Science, we are continuing our discussion on organisms and what would potentially limit our populations of animals. Last week, one class finished up the abiotic and biotic factors and we will continue to discuss the levels of organization within an ecosystem. We will begin the vocabulary and start to read about habitat, species, community, population, and ecosystem.
Ms. Utech:
Language Arts-
Students will continue to practice new LA routines and expectations. Book club groups agreed on weekly due dates for pages last week, so students will be expected to read Week Two pages by Friday. I will post discussion questions for their book club also due on Friday. Word work will be more common prefixes and will be due on Thursday. Our focus skill this week is identifying story elements such as characters, character traits, setting, and plot including conflict and resolution. We will also finish some assessments on decoding and fluency as well as do some work on MobyMax stories, vocabulary, and grammar.
Writing-
We will continue this week to list strategies for generating possible narrative pieces. We will review best and worst writing times and set goals for how to make the classroom the best place it can be to foster writing. From here, students will chose items from their lists and practice writing narratives with precise details, showing all 5 senses instead of telling, so that readers feel like they are actually there. We will also take time to share writing to inspire and encourage one another.
Social Studies-
Our focus again this week will be map skills. We will go through important vocabulary and compare and contrast various types of maps. More specifically, we will be reviewing continents, cardinal and intermediate directions, as well as latitude and longitude. This standard will be covered but not assessed in Powerschool.
