Learning Adventures!

Advanced Math
Students are continuing to work on statistics.   Students are working on mean absolute deviation, understanding gaps, outliers, and peaks as well as collecting, interpreting, and analyzing data.  Students will have their test at the beginning of next week.

Math 2/3
Students are going to be taking their test on customary and metric measurements and then will begin to learn about line plots, perimeter, area and volume of shapes.

Science
Students will be taking their test on the circulatory system on Monday and Tuesday of next week.  We have been working on tracing the path of blood in the heart, the parts of the heart, parts of the blood and the jobs of the circulatory system.

Language Arts (Sharman)
Students will continue reading their chapter books in their groups. For each chapter, students are working on the skill of summarizing. They are expected to summarize each chapter after they read. There is a chart in their reading notebook which helps them include all the important details for summarizing. In addition, we will work on figurative language, what each type means, and how it is used in our everyday language. Students will be creating booklets with each form of figurative language with examples of each.

Writing (Sharman)
Students began writing their rough draft of their research report on Friday. Students will continue using their graphic organizer to complete their first draft of their paper on Monday. We will then begin the process of going back in our writing and adding descriptive details and figurative language.

Language Arts (Utech)
Students will finish their standard on identifying the meaning of words and phrases in writing including figurative language such as metaphors and similes. Students will finish Kahoots they are making to demonstrate their work of identifying examples of figurative language they found within their IR books.  They will also continue to practice identifying vocabulary from their books and practice using them in sentences. Normal Moby and fluency homework routines will continue.

Writing (Utech)
Students will be continue the Lucy Caulkins Research Reports unit. Students will begin researching, note-taking, and expanding their thoughts on the facts and ideas they research.  They will also study maps as a tool for researching.

Social Studies
We will continue learning about westward expansion.  This week we will cover the War of 1812, how land was gained, and the concept of manifest destiny.  Students will have an open-ended check-in quiz where they share what they know about key words such as manifest destiny, the Louisiana Purchase, Lewis and Clark expedition, and impact on the natives.  I have illustrations and key words as a study guide for students, which we will go over in class.
