Language
Arts (Sharman)
Students
will continue working on the skill of summarizing and work with longer passages
this week. They did a great job last week summarizing familiar children’s
books. This skill will help us when we begin to write our research reports.
Students should be reading any final articles or books that may help with
writing their reports.
Writing
(Sharman)
Students
will begin filling out their graphic organizer on Monday which will be a
template for writing their five paragraph research reports. We will learn how
to narrow down our notes to the most important and interesting details to
include in our reports. Students have been working very hard on finding awesome
information for their papers.
Language
Arts
This week, students will continue to work on
identifying the meaning of words and phrases in writing including figurative
language such as metaphors and similes. Students will be searching within
their IR books to find and photograph examples of figurative language and
literary devices to be used in a Kahoot to quiz their classmates. In
addition, their active reading will focus on vocabulary, context clues, and
using the words in sentences accurately. In class, we will also be
reading poetry and picture books to both identify figurative language and
discuss the meaning behind the examples. Normal homework routes will
continue.
Writing
Students will be starting the Lucy Caulkins
Research Reports unit. The unit focuses on Westward Expansion. We began by gathering
key words from our background knowledge, and this week students will start
organizing key words and ideas to write a flash draft of what they know.
