Language Arts
Our focus standard this week will be determining meaning
of words and phrases including figurative language. We will review various literary devices and
use technology to take notes and demonstrate their knowledge by creating personal
examples as well as finding examples in independent reading books. Moby stories and active reading will be due
Friday, and fluency will be due Monday.
Writing
Students will be completing final drafts of color poems
this week. Prewriting and rough drafts
were written last week, and this week students will revise for stronger voice
and word choice by adding figurative language, description, and adjectives into
their writing. As time allows, we may begin acrostic or haiku poems as well to
practice creative writing and figurative language.
Social Studies
Students will continue working on a comic strip called
The United States is Born. They will be
given notes in class for each comic to outline the sequence of events and
important documents that set up our country’s government. This week we will cover more about how our
government is set up under the Constitution.
Language Arts (Sharman)
We will continue working on how to identify the main idea
and details that support it. In addition, we should finish up our biography
chapter books by the end of the week. Students should be reading at least 10
pages per day and taking notes on the important details that relate to the
topics they’re researching.
Writing (Sharman)
We will read our articles we printed in the library on
Friday. Through reading the articles we will learn how to narrow down to the
most important details, in addition to citing our sources.
We will be finishing up our lessons on converting mass
between customary and metric. On
Thursday we will be taking our test for Chapter 7. On Friday, we will be starting our lessons on
Statistics.
Math 2/3 –
We will be finishing up our chapter 7 part 2 on graphing and
making tables. Students will be taking
their test on Tuesday and have their second chance. On Wednesday, we will be starting our
Chapter 8 which will be converting units between customary and metric.
Science –
Students are continuing their work on the circulatory system
by identifying the path that the blood takes through the body. We will work to identify the parts of the
heart.
