WELCOME BACK MRS. SHARMAN!

Monday, February 29th
District Orchestra Concert BP GYM 7PM
Friday, March 4th
DARE Graduation GYM 2 PM

Sharman Language Arts:
We will read the story this week called, “Ruby the Copycat” and will focus on the skill of identifying characters’ emotions in a story and how their emotions affect the events in a story.
The vocabulary words that we will focus on this week are:
coincidence- same things happen at the same time
pleasant-enjoyable
modeled- showed it so other people could see it
murmured-said softly so people could hardly hear it
loyal- sticks with you in good times and bad
recited-memorized then spoke aloud
Students will also get their new spelling list on Monday and are expected to practice their words EVERY night. They will also be expected to either get 10 units done in Lexia or Reading Plus (2 SR, 2 IB, 2 RA) completed by Friday.

Advanced Math:
Students will be continuing to work on volume of rectangular prisms.   Many of the students worked through the differences between surface area, perimeter and volume.  All of this helps students to identify what they are solving for.   Students will continue to work on finding the volume of prisms and then will move into finding the volume for fractional edge lengths.

Language Arts:
Our routine will continue with Moby and active reading due Friday, as well as fluency due Monday. Our focus standard this week will be integrating information from several texts to gain knowledge on a topic.

Math 2/3:
Students will continue to work on beginning to divide with decimals both as the divisor and the dividend.  Students will finish up their first quiz and then continue to work through more lessons as the week progresses involving decimals.

Sharman Math:
We will continue our chapter on division beginning on Monday with lesson 5-6. We will also take the first quiz of the unit so Mrs. Sharman can see how they’re doing with their division practice. Please make sure you look at your child’s homework nightly and even practice some simple 3 digit by 1 digit long division problems.

Writing:
Students will be starting the final bend of the research-based argumentative essay. Students will choose their own topic this week to practice the process of recording ideas and collecting evidence to support their argument.

Sharman Writing:
We will focus on the skill of persuasion. This week we will be writing letters to help get donations for the 2Myles4Autism event taking place on April 23! http://2myles4autism.weebly.com/. Through this lesson we will also focus on the correct way to format a letter as well as writing addresses.

Achieve3000:
Students will begin the week with a choice article and then will choose articles to complete for the Achieve contest that is running right now.  Thursday we will have library.

Social Studies:
Students will be wrapping up the packet on events leading to the American Revolution this week. They will be in charge of recording the Intolerable Acts as well as finishing all the words, drawings, and coloring for each page.

Science:
Students will begin to work through the ideas of mechanical and chemical digestion.  Students will also be working through how acids break down food.  Please encourage your child to be reviewing their notes and vocabulary.
