Learning adventures this week...

Language Arts:
Book clubs are in their final week, so your child should finish reading their book club book by Friday.  To practice opinion writing, students will create an opinion question to post and discuss on Friday.  We will be doing The Fighting Ground as our read-aloud focusing on vocabulary, inferencing, and summarizing.  Fluency homework will be coming home, due Monday. Students will be working to set their own individual goals for Moby Stories percentages, and their weekly Moby lesson will be due Friday.

Writing:
Students will be adding quotes to bolster their arguments about chocolate milk this week.  They will also  analyze their evidence and explain their thinking more in depth to create a more powerful voice in their writing.  We did not get to the capitalization work last week, so we will start that review this week.

Social Studies:
We will continue to about the events that led to the American Revolution this week.  Students will be reading passages and summarizing the idea of “salutary neglect” as well as the Proclamation of 1763.  Students will be in charge of summarizing what each event/idea was, how it led to war, as well as create a drawing to demonstrate their understanding.

Resource Language Arts-
In class this week we will be reading a folktale titled THE LIZARD AND THE SUN.  The students will understand how a folktale often teaches a lesson or explains how something came to be. Students will also complete a story map including the characters, setting, problem, important events, and solution.

Resource Writing-
This week students will have the opportunity to write their own folktale with a setting and characters from long ago that has an important message behind it. They will be adding precise words to help the reader visualize details that are included in the story.

Advanced Math-
This week we will be reviewing our work on basic algebra concepts and have our part one of chapter five test.  Then we will continue to use these concepts to develop one step equations.

Science-
In Science, we are finishing up our biome projects.  After everyone presents we will be starting our digestive system unit.  We will begin with a pretest and then move into exploring the system through lab stations.

Achieve 3000-
Students this week will have the choice once again to choose their own article.  We continue to develop our cause and effect skills as we answer questions based on our articles.

Math 2/3-
Students will review for their chapter 4 test and then will be taking their test.  We will then be starting our unit on division and division with decimals.
