Updates for February 20-24

WOW!  WOW!  WOW!
We are impressed and astonished by how many books our students have finished in the last month.   As of today, we had over 100 books completed.  This averages out to 2 books per student.  THIS IS AMAZING!  One of the best ways to become a better reader and writer is to read!  We can’t wait to see where this takes our house students.

This is a great talking point with your child, you can ask them:
·         What book are you reading?  What is about? (This helps support reading comprehension.)
·         What is your goal of how many books you want to read by the end of the year?
·         How many pages do you have as your goal each night?
·         What the pages they read were about to give you an update on the book. (This helps support reading comprehension.)

For fluency this week in Language Arts, students need to read for 1 minute out of their independent reading book and then count how many words they read.  They still need to fill out the slips and need to have a parent signature.  If your child is having difficulties or is making more than 5 decoding errors, please note this on the fluency page and encourage your child to find a better fit book.

February 21st –Tuesday
*Conferences from 4:00-7:30 – If you still need to schedule a conference, please call the office or email either Miss Utech or Mrs. Brenner.
*Last day of the book fair – check it out after the conferences.
*Yearbook Orders are DUE to the office – otherwise you will need to contact Harmann Studios for a payment and late fee.
February  27-March 3 is going to be a Spirit Week sponsored by Peer Leaders.  Students will be given more information on dress up days and different grade level activities through the Roadrunner Way on Schoology.  Be sure to ask your child what it is.
February 27 – Monday – students will have library.  Please encourage them to bring their books.

March 3rd – Early Release at 1:08 – Students will eat lunch at school.
