Lessons:
Advanced Math:
This week we will be finishing our unit on Area of Regular Figures. Our test will be on Tuesday with Monday spent reviewing. After that we will be moving forward on understanding how to find surface area of prisms and volume.
Science:
This week we are concluding our unit on Populations and Communities. We will spend Monday and Tuesday reviewing and then will have our test on Wednesday and Thursday depending on which day your child has Science. Your child does have access to a study guide found in the Science Course on Schoology under Resources – it is called Study Guide for Chapter 1.
Achieve:
This week we will continue to work on building vocabulary and understanding vocabulary within the sense of the context of the informational articles that we will be reading. Continue to encourage your child to read books of their choosing when they don’t have Achieve for homework.
Second Hour Math:
We will finish chapter 2 on decimals, review and have our test towards the end of the week.
Resource Language Arts:
We will read the reader’s theater called, “What’s My Job?” and focus on understanding why the setting is important to a story, and figuring out the main idea and supporting details. Your student will get a new spelling and vocabulary list on Monday and are expected to study them throughout the week. Don’t forget, on Thursday night’s your student has spelling homework and they need your help to do it! Please don’t forget to sign at the bottom of the sheet. As always, students need to have 10 units of Lexia or 2IB, 2RA, and 2SR for Reading Plus by Friday.
Resource Writing:
We will focus on using sensory details in our writing. Your student will get to pick their FAVORITE food, create a webb diagram for it and write a solid paragraph about it :). I can’t wait to listen to the tantalizing details on Friday.
Language Arts:
Guest reader for Bridge to Terabithia: too sad for Utech to read aloud! |
This week we will wrap up the theme unit. Final score in Powerschool will be determined from several scores from various theme check-ins over the past week to give the best representation of your child’s skill level. Last week we finished My Girl, our class read-aloud. One of our literature standards asks students to compare and contrast characters, settings, or events within stories. To help cover this standard, we will watch the movie My Girl and compare and contrast the characters, settings, and events as there are very similar themes students can dissect between Bridge and My Girl. A new MobyMax lesson is due Friday as well as the new book club reading and post.
Cat Lady reads to our LA class... :) |
Writing:
Students will revise their narrative endings so the story doesn’t just end; they resolve problems, learn lessons, and makes changes to end them in a way that ties back to the big meaning of their story. We will also go over the narrative rubric so students can self-assess and make final adjustments to their narrative to make it the best it can be. Next week we will be using the writing tools we’ve learned so far to begin new narratives and gather even more tools to make our writing great.
Social Studies:
Our focus this week will be on the competition between the English, French, Dutch and Indian Nations for control over North America. We will look at specific explorers to discover their motivations and impacts on native populations.Sucker Sales! |
