What’s Happening in Class:

Mrs. Sharman
Resource LA
Students need to bring in five items to describe themselves that they’ll share with the class by Tuesday. We will also begin our first story in Storytown. Students will be expected to complete a nightly grammar packet this week. We will start our spelling groups next week Monday.

Writing
We will do a pre-assessment of writing and decorate our writing notebooks!

Mrs. Brenner
Advanced Math
We will be taking a pretest and then will start chapter 1 on rates, ratios, and proportions

Second Hour Math
Students will create an “All About Me” activity using math problem solving, a math learner profile, and we will begin our flexible groupings for math class on Friday.

Science
We will begin our ecology unit which will include identifying the needs that must be met by an organisms surroundings, we will work on identifying biotic and abiotic parts of a habitat and will work to describe the levels of organization within an ecosystem.

Ms. Utech:
Language Arts
Students will be presenting their Paper Bag items to the class to tell us more about themselves.  Please make sure your child brings his or her items beginning on Tuesday.  We will do a few each day until we are finished.  We will do a few pre-assessments on various spelling, grammar, and reading programs we will be using this year to give us a baseline to start from.  We will also get comfortable using Schoology and practice following expectations.  If time allows, we will get a start on learning about story structure and reading from our Storytown series.
Writing
Students will be starting with a writing pre-assessment for narratives to help us get to know him or her as a writer.  From here, we will be decorating Writer's Notebook to make them their own.  We will also practice making entries in their notebooks to get more comfortable recording their thoughts and coming up with writing ideas to use for future reference.
Social Studies
Students will be discussing why we should learn about history and how we can each learn from the past.  As time allows, we will also review and discuss the events from Sept. 11, 2001.
