Learning Adventures!

Language Arts (Utech)
We will continue to work through the book Shades of Gray as our class read aloud.  Students will complete comprehension and discussion questions both through in class partner discussions and sharing or through writing out answers online on Schoology.  We will also practice determining the meaning of vocabulary terms in context as well as summarize the reading.

Social Studies
We will continue to learn about the Civil War, focusing on growing differences between the North and South, important battles, strategies in the war, as well as strengths and weaknesses of each side.  As time allows, we will begin looking at the ending of the war and the Reconstruction period for the South.

Writing (Utech)

Due to testing last week, we had very little time to work on research reports!  Last week’s lessons have been pushed to this week.  We will be studying mentor texts to see how nonfiction books add such items as charts, diagrams, maps, timelines, bold words, vocabulary, definition boxes, etc. to aid their readers.  With this knowledge, we will identify areas where we could add these to our writing to help readers understand.  Students will be transferring their paper into Book Creator for their final drafts.

Language Arts (Sharman)
Students will finish their novels in their groups this week. We will continue working on figurative language by talking about alliteration and personification. Students will get a new spelling list with the most commonly misspelled words and are expected to study them for Friday. Lexia or Reading Plus should also continue.

Writing (Sharman)
Students will work on reviewing different types of paragraph writing.

Advanced Math
We will be testing on operations with integers and graphing on the coordinate plane on Tuesday.  We will then start the first chapter of 7th grade math.  This is probability.  We will begin with understanding the probability and  what it means.

Math 2/3
Students will be finishing up their art project using perimeter and area.   Students will be reviewing all the concepts that we have learned throughout the school year for the next two weeks.

Science

Students will be learning the different parts of the respiratory system starting with the nose and mouth.  Students will then look at the gas exchange that takes place in the alveoli within the lungs.
